I have a fairly strict way I like to do my studies and I rarely sway from it. The first thing I do is read through the scriptures without interruption. I like to use a simple reference bible for this first step so as to avoid any predispositions from others as to what I'm reading, leaving my thoughts open to whatever the Holy Spirit decides to reveal to me. Once I read it continuously without interruption, I go back and re-read each verse slowly, one at a time. While I do this I make note of each reference, looking up each and comparing it to the original verses. I also look at Greek versus English words in the text to see if there is anything that may have been left out in translation to the English text. During this phase is when I make any notes of my thoughts, interpretations and what the Holy Spirit has revealed to me. Once I feel my notes are complete, I pick up my Scofield Study Bible and re-read the scriptures again, and stop to read any of Scofield's note related to those verses, and compare his notes to my own to see if he has gleaned anything differently or even the same as my own. I finalize my notes based on what I feel the Spirit has revealed to me through Scofield's note and my own.
So how do you study the Word? What types of bibles do you use? What's your method? I'd love to see how each of us vary in our style of study!
